The Barony of St. Swithin’s Bog is hosting a Newcomer’s Event on Sunday, May 15th at the 1889 Park in St. Michael.  This event is FREE!  We are calling it a Newcomer’s Event because it is an open invitation to anyone that has an interest in the SCA and would like to see and know more.  This will take the place of the usual practice on Sunday, and we are hoping to have fencing, thrown weapons, and archery there as well.

The “event” is part demo, and part practice; an introduction to what we do.  I would also like to see regulars and longtime members attending to just hang out and talk.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a friend, coworker, or family member that is curious about the SCA.  We are planning to do an event-style day board potluck (meat, cheese, bread, fruit, etc… while avoiding obvious modern foods).  Garb is encouraged, but don’t let that prevent someone from attending. If you need help finding clothing for someone, please ask.  The idea is to get newcomer’s feet wet.

Be sure to remind anyone interested in attending that this is a FREE event and there is no expectation of participation.  If they wish to try out a marshal activity, they will still need to sign a waiver.

Jorka has been hard at work planning this Newcomer’s Event and getting some people interested.  We cannot prosper without new people.

The address of the park is 132 Park Rd, South Fork, PA 15956.  We are planning to start at 1:00 and hang out until the park closes.
